Bakgrund: Det har visats att befolkningens hälsa, både i Sverige och globalt generellt har förbättrats. Vilket medför att antalet äldre personer ökar, och det innebär att fler bor kvar hemma längre. Anhörigas roll har därför blivit allt viktigare för äldre personer, men den kan också innebära en ökad belastning under en längre period innan den äldre flyttar till ett äldreboende. Det stora ansvar som anhöriga bär kan i sin tur leda till stress, oro och andra negativa konsekvenser. Det är därför viktigt att sjuksköterskan uppmärksammar även de anhörigas behov.  

Syfte: Syfte var att undersöka anhörigas upplevelser av delaktighet i vården av äldre personer på äldreboende.

Metod: En litteraturöversikt baserad på Fribergs metodbeskrivning genomfördes med åtta vetenskapliga originalartiklar av kvalitativ metod, sökta i databaserna Cinahl Complete och PubMed. Sökorden som tillämpades var Family, Experience during, Family caregiver, Next of Kin, Family Involvement, Participation, Family participation, Involvement, Nursing Homes och Geriatric care. 

Resultat: Resultatet redovisas i två huvudteman med totalt åtta underteman. Det första huvudtemat Betydelsen av interpersonell interaktion med underteman: Kommunikation, Samtal, Relation och Information. Det andra huvudtemat Anhörigas roll, känslomässiga aspekter och utmaningar, med underteman: Ansvar och syn på rollen, Aktiviteter och omsorg, Känslomässig börda samt När kompetens och utbildning saknas. 

Slutsats: Anhörigas upplevelser av delaktighet när deras äldre närstående bor på äldreboende handlar om hur kommunikation, relationer och samtal skapar trygghet och ökar tilliten. Upplevelser av osäkerhet, oro och behov av kontroll kan uppstå när vården fungerar bristfälligt. Sjuksköterskan har därför inte bara ansvar för att vårda de äldre boende, utan även för att uppmärksamma anhörigas behov och erbjuda stöd. 

Background: It has been shown that the health of the population, both in Sweden and globally, has generally improved. This has led to an increase in the number of older people, meaning that more individuals remain living at home for longer. The role of family members has therefore become increasingly important for older persons, but it can also entail a greater burden over an extended period before the older person moves to a nursing home. The significant responsibility that family members carry can, in turn, lead to stress, anxiety, and other negative consequences. It is therefore important that nurses also pay attention to the needs of the family members.

Aim: The aim was to explore family members' experiences of participation in the care of older persons in nursing homes.  

Method: A literature review based on Friberg's methodological description was conducted using eight scientific original articles with a qualitative method, retrieved from the databases Cinahl Complete and PubMed. The search terms applied for were Family, Experience during, Family caregiver, Next of Kin, Family Involvement, Participation, Family participation, Involvement, Nursing Homes and Geriatric care.  

Results: The results are presented in two main themes with a total of eight subthemes. The first main theme The significance of interpersonal interaction, with the subthemes: Communication, Conversation, Relationship, and Information. The second main theme The role of family members, emotional aspects and challenges, with the subthemes: Responsibility and perception of the role, Activities and caregiving, Emotional burden, and When competence and education are lacking.

Conclusion: Relatives' experiences of their involvement when their elderly family members live in nursing homes concern how communication, relationships, and conversations create security and increase trust. Experiences of uncertainty, worry, and the need for control can arise when care is inadequate. Therefore, the nurse is not only responsible for caring for the elderly residents but also for recognizing the relatives' needs and providing support.
