The Swedish Oxford Group Movement's journal Nytt liv and the Second World War : The years 1938–1945 (Swedish)
Abstract [sv]
Abstract [en]
The essay studies how the political situation in the world is described and interpreted in the Oxford Movement's magazine Nytt liv 1938-1945, and how the anxiety about the approaching war is reflected in the movement's magazine and how the challenges of the Oxford Group movement were highlighted during the war years. One conclusion is that throughout the Second World War, the magazine emphasizes the message that the individual must surrender to the savior Jesus Christ. A will to peace must be built from below and trust in collective initiatives is weak. The Finnish Winter War is portrayed as a war where good stands against evil. When Denmark and Norway are occupied, the magazine shows solidarity with neighboring countries. The Danish resistance struggle is met with approval by the magazine. The struggle is carried out by individuals who carry out acts of resistance in the contexts in which they are set to work. Towards the end of the period, the magazine is characterized by thoughts about the reconstruction of war-torn Europe.
