Behind the scenes at Barnahus : Social workers' voices on collaboration and the best interest of the child (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The aim of this study is to explore how social workers within child welfare services perceive the Barnahus model, and how they view their role in collaboration with other professionals. Particular focus was placed on the perceived benefits and challenges of interagency cooperation within Barnahus.

The research questions were addressed through a qualitative method using semi-structured interviews. A total of six social workers, one team leader, and one Barnahus coordinator working in the Stockholm region were interviewed. The collected material was thematically analyzed, with collaboration theory and street-level bureaucracy serving as the theoretical frameworks. The results show that collaboration within Barnahus is perceived by the participants as positive and fundamental for ensuring the child's sense of safety. However, the study also highlights several challenges, participants pointed to a lack of follow-up and differing professional logics as factors that may complicate collaboration.

The study emphasizes the importance of structural definition, mutual understanding among professionals, and long-term commitment to ensure that children exposed to violence receive appropriate protection and support. The findings are relevant for the continued development of interagency collaboration models in social work, with particular emphasis on children's rights as outlined in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
