Patients' experiences of living with heart failure : A literature review (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Background: Heart failure is a chronic disease that affects approximately 23 million people globally, especially the elderly. Heart failure means that the heart is unable to pump enough blood, leading to symptoms such as fatigue and shortness of breath. The nurse plays a big role in helping the patients' health through education, support and continuous follow-ups.

Aim: The aim of the study was to highlight patients' experience of living with heart failure.

Method: Literature review with analysis of 10 original articles consisting of 8 qualitative scientific articles and 2 quantitative scientific articles. The articles were retrieved from the databases CINAHL Complete and PubMed.

Results: The result revealed four themes that effect of people with heart failure live. Physical limitations, lack of knowledge, emotional burden and the need for support.

Conclusion: Patients with heart failure experience psychical and phycological challenges. Nurses can support patients through support, information and person-centered care to improve their quality of life and well-being.
