Perspectives on homelessness : An analysis of social workers' and politicians' reasoning on the characteristics, causes, consequences, and solutions of homelessness (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to examine how social workers and politicians problematize homelessness. The study is based on a qualitative approach and the empirical data was gathered through semi-structured interviews. The interviews reveal the descriptions of social workers and politicians regarding the characteristics, causes, consequences, and solutions of homelessness. The study is based on social constructionist theory and utilizes Jönsson's problem description model in the formulation of interview questions, as well as in the results and analysis. The results show both similarities and differences in the reasoning of the interviewees. Both social workers and politicians describe homelessness primarily as a structural problem. The main difference in their reasoning was that social workers focused on how homelessness manifests itself and affects the individuals, while the reasoning by politicians were broader and more general.
