Bakgrund: Diabetes typ 2 är ett ökande folkhälsoproblem i världen. Vanliga riskfaktorer för diabetes typ 2 är inkluderar rökning, övervikt, livsstil, ärftlighet och minskad fysisk aktivitet. Sjukdomen påverkar kroppens vävnader genom att minska insulinkänsligheten, vilket kan leda till insulinbrist. Att få insikt i upplevelser av personer med diabetes typ 2 kan hjälpa vårdpersonal att bättre förstå de utmaningar dessa personer står inför och hur sjukdomen påverkar det dagliga livet. Sjuksköterskor har en viktig roll i att stödja personer med diabetes genom att bedöma deras specifika vårdbehov och ge vägledning för att främja och upprätthålla en god hälsa.   

Syfte: Syftet är att beskriva personers upplevelse av att leva med diabetes typ 2      

Metod: En litteratur med tio vetenskapliga artiklar från databaserna Cinahl Complete och PubMed.

Resultat: Resultatet baserades på tio vetenskapliga artiklar och belyste tre övergripande teman. Resultatet belyste behovet av kunskap och utbildning om diabetes typ 2 kopplat till diabeteshantering. Brist på kunskap medförde till ineffektiv och svårigheter hantering på sjukdomen. Praktiska utmaningar som kommer med hantering av diabetes inkluderade ekonomiska belastningar samt brister i tillgång till adekvat diabetesvård. Diabetes typ 2 påverkade personers psykiska mående med ett spektrum av känslor såsom skam och skuld, upplevda hinder och motivation avseende livsstilsförändringar samt vikten av socialt stöd för motivationen till diabeteshantering. 

Sammanfattning: Personer med diabetes typ 2 upplevde behov av kunskap och utbildning om diabeteshantering, praktiska utmaningar och psykiska påfrestningar i samband med sjukdomen. Personerna anpassade livsstilen efter sjukdomen och gjorde förändringar i deras matvanor och fysiska motioner. Sociala stödet spelade stor roll för bättre diabeteshantering.  

Background: Type 2 diabetes is an increasing public health problem worldwide. Common risk factors include smoking, obesity, lifestyle, heredity and lack of physical activity. The disease affects the body’s tissues by reducing insulin sensitivity and eventually leading to the development of insulin deficiency. Gaining insight into the experiences of people with type 2 diabetes can help healthcare professionals better understand the challenges people living with diabetes face, and how the disease affects their daily lives. Which leads to improved care. Nurses play an important role in supporting people with diabetes by assessing their specific care needs and providing guidance to promote maintaining good health.   

Aim: Describe people's experience of living with type 2 diabetes.  

Method: A literature review based on ten scientific articles from the databases Cinahl Complete and PubMed.  

Results: The findings of this study are based on the analysis of ten scientific articles that highlight three main themes. The need for knowledge and education about type 2 diabetes is closely linked to effective diabetes management, as a lack of knowledge often leads to ineffective and challenging management of the disease. The results also emphasize the practical challenges associated with managing diabetes, including financial burdens and limited access to adequate care. Additionally, type 2 diabetes significantly affects individuals' psychological well-being, eliciting a range of emotions such as shame and guilt. The findings demonstrate the perceived obstacles to lifestyle changes and underline the importance of social support in motivating individuals to manage their diabetes effectively.

Summary: People with type 2 diabetes experience a need for knowledge and education about diabetes and its management, practical challenges and psychological stress associated with the disease. The people adapted their lifestyles to the disease and adjusted their diet and physical exercise. Social support plays a significant role in better diabetes management.
