Bakgrund: Endometrios är en kronisk sjukdom som drabbar en av tio kvinnor i fertil ålder globalt. Sjukdomen kännetecknas av svår smärta och problem med fertilitet och det finns för närvarande ingen fullständig bot.

Syfte: Att beskriva kvinnors upplevelser av att leva med endometrios.

Metod: En litteraturöversikt genomfördes med syfte att beskriva och kartlägga den aktuella forskningen. För att identifiera vetenskapliga orginalartiklar utfördes sökningar i databaserna CINAHL Complete och PubMed. Nio kvalitativa artiklar inkluderades i resultatet. Data tematiserades baserat på likheter och skillnader i de inkluderade artiklarnas resultat.

Resultat: Analysen resulterade i tre huvudteman: Smärta och andra symtoms dess genomgripande påverkan på livet, Utmaningar i möten med vården och Kvinnlig identitet och intima relationer.

Slutsats: Ett helhetsperspektiv som tar hänsyn till de drabbade kvinnornas unika behov är centralt för att erbjuda en professionell och empatisk vård för kvinnor med endometrios.

Background: Endometriosis is a chronic disease affecting one in ten women of reproductiveage globally. The condition is characterized by severe pain and fertility issues, and there is currently no complete cure.

Aim: To describe women’s experiences of living with endometriosis.

Method: A literature review was conducted to describe and map the current research. Toidentify scientific original articles, searches were performed in the databases CINAHL Complete and PubMed. Nine qualitative articles were included in theresults. Data was thematized based on similarities and differences in thefindings of the included articles.

Results: The analysis resulted in three main themes: Pain and other symptoms and their profound impact on life, Challenges in interactions with healthcare, and Female identity and intimate relationships.

Conclusion: A holistic approach that considers the unique needs of affected women is central to providing professional and empathetic care for women with endometriosis.
