Bakgrund Diabetes mellitus typ 2 är en kronisk sjukdom och är idag ett globalt folkhälsoproblem. Sjukdomen orsakas av insulinresistens och behandlingen kräver både medicinska åtgärder och egenvårdsåtgärder. Ofta behövs omfattande livsstilsförändringar för att förebygga komplikationer av diabetes. Egenvården är en central del av behandlingen där också sjuksköterskan har ett ansvar att informera, utbilda och stödja patienten. Det är därför betydelsefullt att ha en fördjupad förståelse för hur patienter med diabetes upplever sin situation med egenvård. Det kan underlätta att ge en god och personcentrarad vård.

Syfte Syftet var att belysa patienters upplevelser av egenvård vid diabetes.

Metod En allmän litteraturöversikt har utfört och resultat grundades på tio kvalitativa vetenskapliga artiklar. Sökningen av artiklarna gjordes i databaserna CINAHL Complete och PubMed.

Resultat Det framkom tre huvudteman och tre underteman; livstilförändringar, stöd och egenvårdutmaningar med underteman; kunskap och förståelse, motivation och ekonomiska utmaningar.

Slutsats Utifrån litteraturensöversikt har det visat att patienterna upplever att de påverkas av olika faktorer. Men att kunna behandla sjukdomen krävs olika behandlingsinsatser som medicinska respektive egenvård. I genomförandet av egenvården ligger största ansvaret hos patienten med stöd av sjuksköterskan i form av patientutbildning, stöd samt motivation. Patienternas utmaningar i egenvården inkluderade livsstilsförändringar, brist på kunskap samt motivation. Stöd från familjemedlemmar samt kunskap och stöd från sjukvårdspersonal upplevde patienterna som en främjande faktor till att fortsätta med egenvården.

Background Diabetes mellitus type 2 is a chronic disease and is today a global public health problem. The disease is caused by insulin resistance, and the treatment requires both medical measures and self-care measures. Extensive lifestyle changes are often needed to prevent complications from diabetes. Self-care is a central part of the treatment where the nurse also has a responsibility to inform, educate and support the patient. It is therefore important to have a deeper understanding of how patients with diabetes experience their situation with self-care. It can make it easier to provide good, person-centred care.

Aim The aim was to shed light on patients' experiences of self-care in diabetes mellitus type 2.

Method A general literature review has been performed and results were based on ten qualitative scientific articles. The search for the articles was done in the databases CINAHL Complete and PubMed.

Results Three main themes and three sub-themes emerged; lifestyle changes, support and self-care challenges with sub-themes; knowledge and understanding, motivation and financial challenges.

Conclusion Based on the literature review, it has shown that the patients felt that they were affected by various factors. But being able to treat the disease requires various treatment interventions such as medical and self-care. In carrying out self-care, the greatest responsibility lies with the patient with the support of the nurse in the form of patient education, support as well motivation. The patients' challenges in self-care included lifestyle changes, lack of knowledge and motivation. Support from family members as well as knowledge and support from healthcare professionals was perceived by the patients as a promoting factor to continue with self-care.
