Bakgrund: Antalet barn och ungdomar som drabbas av anorexia nervosa ökar ständigt och därmed även behovet av en välfungerande och kostnadseffektiv behandling. I Sverige rekommenderas familjebaserad behandling inom hälso- och sjukvård på både nationell och regional nivå. Studier har visat att efter ett års behandling bedöms anorexian vara i remission hos 52 procent av barnen/ungdomarna. Åtta procent av familjerna väljer att avsluta behandlingen i förtid.  

Syfte: Syftet var att beskriva familjemedlemmars upplevelser av familjebaserad behandling vid anorexia nervosa. 

Metod: Litteraturöversikt med systematisk ansats. Sökningarna genomfördes i databaserna Cinahl Complete, PsycInfo, PubMed och Web of Science. Totalt inkluderades 17 kvalitativa artiklar i resultatet.   

Resultat: I analysprocessen framkom sex teman till vilka ett antal tillhörande underteman kunde inordnas: Dynamik och relationer i familjen förändras, Det sociala livet påverkas, Känslor som väcks, Behandlarens roll och betydelse, Behandlingen ger verktyg samt Att dela erfarenheter med andra. 

Slutsats: Familjemedlemmarna upplevde behandlingen som hjälpsam, att den ökade deras förmåga att gå emot sjukdomen och att behandlaren hade en viktig roll för hur de upplevde behandlingen. Utifrån att behandlarens interpersonella färdigheter och kunskaper om sjukdomen beskrivs som avgörande för möjligheten till förändring bör dessa faktorer ses som centrala i mötet med familjen under behandlingen. Kunskap om hur behandlingen påverkar familjen – både som individer och som grupp – och hur behandlaren kan skapa en interpersonell terapeutisk relation blir därför viktiga för att kunna ge familjen en god vård som utgår från deras behov och förutsättningar.

Background: The number of children and adolescents affected by anorexia nervosa is constantly increasing and so is the need for effective and cost-effective treatment. In Sweden, family-based treatment is recommended in healthcare at both national and regional levels. Studies have shown that after one year of treatment, 52% of children/adolescents are considered to be in remission. Eight percent of families choose to end treatment prematurely.

Aim: The aim was to describe family members' experiences of family-based treatment for anorexia nervosa.

Method: Literature review with a systematic approach. The searches were conducted in the databases Cinahl Complete, PsycInfo, PubMed and Web of Science. A total of 17 qualitative articles were included in the results.

Results: In the analysis process, six themes emerged to which a number of associated sub-themes could be assigned: Changing family dynamics and relationships, Impact on social life, Emotions evoked, Role and importance of the practitioner, Treatment provides tools, and Sharing experiences with others.

Conclusion: The family members felt that the treatment was helpful, that it increased their ability to cope with the disease and that the practitioner played an important role in their experience of the treatment. Given that the therapist's interpersonal skills and knowledge of the disease are described as crucial to the possibility of change, these factors should be seen as central to the encounter with the family during treatment. Knowledge of how the treatment affects the family - both as individuals and as a group - and how the practitioner can create an interpersonal therapeutic relationship are therefore important in order to provide the family with good care based on their needs and conditions.
